About this deal

They are easy to make at home and can be served with a variety of Indian dishes or enjoyed on their own with a little ghee or butter. After having to switch to gluten free recently, i was concerned that any chapatti flour i try, just wouldn't be the same as i had tried other leading brands like Dove's Farm, which i didn't like the taste and consistency of. I re-measured all of the ingredients and it turns out that one of my scales is faulty (I usually rotate between 2). Dust the dough and work surface with a small amount of extra rice flour and begin to roll into a circle, about 18-cm (7-inches) wide.

Thank you for your hard work in creating something my St Lucian husband and gluten-free self could both enjoy! It's really important to measure your ingredients, to my island folks, I know we have a tendency to eyeball the amount of ingredients from passed down knowledge and/or experience. My mother does not like the dough because when she wants to make roti its sticked to the base when she try to put on tava roti gets broken. It’s taken a few attempts to get this right but I’m absolutely blown away by how soft and pillowy these wheat free rotis are.

Your gluten free Roti recipe was my last hope after giving up a few years ago from trying multiple recipes. I’ve been making these gluten free roti for many years and for some reason have never shared the recipe. To fluff the chapati, take a cotton napkin or paper towel and gently press down and out to the edges of chapati until bubbles form. I’m trying to go on a diet and I include a lot of gluten free stuff in my diet so I am trying millet flour and barley flour half and half. Once the mixture is has cooled slightly, knead the dough using your hands until soft and smooth, about 6-7 minutes. It felt useful and exciting to channel my energy into something more real; Into something I could eat. Before we dive into why rice flour is the perfect ingredient for making roti, let’s first understand what roti is. Below we will show you how to make a healthy chapati that is gluten-free and more nutritious than the classic one. These can include brown rice flour, potato starch, quinoa flour, almond flour, cassava flour, and more. All of these grains are naturally gluten-free and are loaded with many nutrients and health benefits.

I discovered the Masa Harina or Masa Lista which is lime treated corn (makki) used in making tortillas. If you have issues kneading the dough you can add 1/4 tsp psyllium husk powder or xanthum gum for more stability. The good thing is that you can always had a bit more flour which will salvage the recipe (which is what you did) so you don't end up with a recipe fail. Keep the rolled-out rotis under cling film or a damp to towel to prevent them from drying out while you cook each chapati. These bite size delicacies are a favorite South Indian breakfast recipe that originated in the Chettinad region of Tamil Nadu.

This is one of the main differences between chapati and naan, which is leavened - more about this below. For some reason this cornflour is not available anymore but don’t worry I will update my recipe with the best option. It's okay if you don't use all of the water, the consistency of the dough is more important than using all of the water that is stated. These ingredients add flavor and moisture to the chapatis and help to make them softer and more pliable. They were tricky to get from rolling surface to pan (I ended up rolling long narrow ones the same size and shape as my spatula…) but cooked up beautifully.
