About this deal

He smuggled Bibles into the most closed and dangerous countries of the world, risking his life over and over again. SUCH a thrill to read about the things that God does in, for and through those who are willing to be daring for Him. The messages about the persecuted church and the need of fellowship and letting them know they're not forgotten were so spot on! Andrew was often aware of state officials keeping an eye on him wherever he went in some of these countries.

The end of the book goes on to tell of his other adventure and of opening up Open Doors USA- a mission to those behind the Iron Curtain. Great book showing why obeying God is not a choice but an duty, so much in this book resonates with my life and several times I had tears for how God demonstrated His goodness in Brother Andrew's life. The youth edition also features information about ministry to the persecuted church today, including country profiles, quotes from Christians in underground churches, "what if" scenarios based on real-life threats they face, and stories from others who have participated in Brother Andrew's Bible-smuggling work. Summary: The story follows Andrew from his childhood growing up in Holland during World War II, to his years fighting with the Dutch army in Indonesia, to his conversion to Christianity and his early years of ministry. His first autobiography, God's Smuggler, told of his courageous Bible-smuggling exploits in Eastern Europe during the Cold War, and became an international best-seller with over ten million copies sold in English. He told his story in God's Smuggler , then for the next 50 years ministered to persecuted Christians around the world while presenting the Gospel to extremist groups like Hamas and Hezbollah. An older couple, the Whetstras, had given him their new car because they had prayed about it and believed that van der Bijl would need the car.

This incredible story combines heart–stopping adventure, broken lives transformed and the realities of spiritual warfare, all rolled together in a page–turning thriller set behind the Iron Curtain. Later visits also included trips to Pakistan in the 2010s, where van der Bijl attempted to meet with members of the Taliban. The greater part of this story is about Andrew’s travels behind the iron curtain smuggling Bibles, preaching, and encouraging the Christians. Elizabeth Sherrill is the author behind the classic best sellers The Hiding Place about Corrie ten Boom, The Cross and the Switchblade about David Wilkerson, and God's Smuggler about Brother Andrew. There are really no words to describe it other than Brother Andrew simply living in obedience to God.God placed people in Andrew's life at key points and I'm sure these people were faithfully praying for him. It also made me think a lot about things—how the young people were weaned from the church by the government, how where the Christians were indifferent the religion was completely tolerated because it was dying down. This is a heart–warming book that will challenge you in your walk with Christ and fill your heart with gratitude to our mighty God. Each time he went, he encouraged the Christians that they were not forgotten by their brothers around the world.
